My life up to now. Part 1: The Seed

When I was 14 years old... circa 1988, I walked into The Electronics Boutique. A computer/games store in the mall. I always walked into that store with "amaze eyes". Earlier that year I had made friends with all the guys that worked behind the counter... just so I can feel closer to awesome. This particular day I rounded the computer games isle and was met face to face with one the most amazing spectacles I have ever seen, Battle Chess playing on an Amiga 500 computer. Scott, my friend picked up my jaw from the floor and held my hand as he walked me close to the screen. It was so real looking, amazing. That night, I went home and knew that every thing I did from this point forward was in preparation to being the Amiga 500 home. I wanted that computer. I needed that computer. I convinced my dad to talk to the local grocery store about hiring me. I was 14, too young to be working, but my parents helped me get a "worker's permit" that would allow me to start. My starting salary was $3.15/hour! I was dead-set and determined to do whatever it took to get an Amiga computer because I knew that it was my future. Long story short, I got the computer. I remember the week I brought it home like it was yesterday. Along with the computer, I got applications like Deluxe Paint, Disney Animation Studio, and a few amazingly cool games. Everything I did on that computer inspired me to do more, to be graphical. I remember staying up for hours on end recreating Wolverine Comic Book covers in Deluxe Paint. I would draw every pixel by hand using the mouse. I also remember completely recreating a dollar bill pixel for pixel which was a wonderful painstaking process, little did I know I was forming a trend that would put me where I am today.

Why blog?

I'm Kevin Nations. My wife and I make a living as film producer/directors and live in Texas. I'm writing this blog because I feel I can share my experiences, my long hard journey to get to where I am today... which isn't very far, but it's at least several miles down the road. You might also notice that I talk in extremely long run-on sentences. Follow me on my journey as I make tons of mistakes and learn it all the hard way.
